The Shenyang J-8 (in NATO code: Finback) is a modern Chinese-made interceptor and multi-role fighter. The J-8 version flew in 1969, and the J-8II version in 1984. In the J-8II version, the drive is provided by two turbojet engines Guizhou WP-13A II . The on-board armament in the J-8II version consists of a single 23 mm Type 23-III cannon.
The Shenyang J-8 aircraft was developed by the company that is now called Shenyang Aircraft Corporation and in its original version (designation: J-8) it is a development of the Soviet MiG-21 machine. The machine, compared to its Soviet prototype, received two turbojet engines, instead of one, which positively influenced the flight range and the maximum time spent in the air. The machine, however, in terms of construction was similar to the MiG-21. However, significant changes took place in the version marked as J-8II. The plane received a completely redesigned fuselage, changed air intakes, other engines and a highly modernized undercarriage. It also had a relatively high-powered on-board radar by the Chinese aviation standards at the time. This version of the Shenyang J-8 entered the line in 1987. It is estimated that the production of all versions of the J-8 was 390 machines.
