The Fennek is a modern four-wheeled Dutch-German military reconnaissance vehicle. The first prototypes of the vehicle were created in 2000, and a year later serial production began, which is still ongoing. So far, about 630 vehicles of this type have been built. The Fennek is powered by a single Deutz 239 HP diesel engine. . The armament of the vehicle is: in the German version - one 40 mm grenade launcher and a single 7.62 mm MG3 machine gun, or in the Dutch version - a single 12.7 mm M2HB machine gun.
Fennek was created for the needs of the German and Dutch armies to replace the older types of cars. The emphasis is primarily on stealthy operation, high mobility and speed. As a result, a vehicle with very good mobility was created, despite the use of a four-wheeled chassis, with an armor of up to 28 mm, and above all, with reduced infrared radiation and using some elements of stealth technology. Fennek also has a very modern reconnaissance system based on an optoelectronic head that slides out of the hull of the car, equipped with a thermal imaging camera, a day camera and a laser rangefinder. It also uses modern battlefield management and reconnaissance systems. The vehicle is in service with the Dutch and German armies.
