The Tiran-5 was an Israeli tank from the post-war period. The first vehicles of this type appeared in service shortly after 1967. The Tiran 5 tank was initially armed with a single 100mm gun and two 7.62mm and 12.7mm Browning machine guns. As a result of the enormous military success for Israel, the Six-Day War (1967), a huge amount of captured war equipment fell into the hands of the armed forces of that country - including hundreds of T-54 and T-55 tanks (mainly Egyptian). The Israeli army very soon after the end of military operations decided to use them for its own purposes and modernize it accordingly. This is how the Tiran family of carts was created, of which Tiran-5 is one of the representatives. The first versions of the Tiran 5 were not significantly different from the original T-55. They had, among others: new additional armament, more water tanks or a new light similar to those used in the M60 Patton. However, the scope of modifications was quickly increased by, among others, the installation of a new 105mm Sharir cannon, a 60mm mortar or a more ergonomic arrangement of the turret interior. This is how the Tiran-5Sh tanks were created. The Tiran-5 cars were used in combat during the so-called wars of exhaustion (1967-1970) and the Yom-Kippur wars (1973).
