The Armed Forces of South Korea (ROK Army for short) currently number around 464,000 soldiers. Recruits who go to this army serve 21 months of basic service, and men aged 18-35 are conscripted. Currently, the South Korean army is divided into three large operational units: the First Army, the Third Army, and the Second Operational Command. One of the most important components of these armed forces is its armored forces, which in 2017-2018 consisted of 7 mechanized divisions, in which tanks play a huge role. Most often, the South Korean mechanized division has three mechanized infantry brigades. One such brigade consists of 1 to 2 tank battalions. The exception is the 30th Mechanized Infantry Division, whose structure is far from the model. It is worth adding that the South Korean armored corps currently has cars mainly of domestic construction: K1 / K1A1, but also very modern K2 Black Panther. However, M48 tanks of different versions and the pro-Soviet T-80U and T-80UK still remain in the line. It is estimated that ROK Army has between 2,400 and 2,500 tanks in stock. It is worth adding that in ROK Army great emphasis is placed on the training of tankers, which is often very rigorous and strict.
