The first prototypes of the 2S19 Msta self-propelled howitzer were built in the mid-1980s, and serial production began in 1989 and continues to the present (2017) at the Uraltransmash plant in Yekaterinburg. The 2S19 Msta self-propelled howitzer is powered by a single V-84A engine with 840 HP. The main armament of the vehicle is a 152mm 2A65 cannon howitzer and a single 12.7mm NSVT machine gun. The 2S19 Msta chassis was created on the basis of numerous components of the T-72 and T-80 tanks. The combat compartment of the vehicle is fully covered, and the main armament is located in a rotating turret clearly towering over the hull. The practical rate of fire is estimated at 7-8 rounds per minute. The main ammunition for the main armament are high-explosive shells, which can be fired at a maximum distance of 24,000 m. Laser guided missiles (Krasnopol-M) or cluster grenades can also be used. The 2S19 Msta self-propelled howitzer was used in combat during the Second Chechen War and in the current fighting in the Donbas. It has been exported to several countries, including Azerbaijan, Belarus and Venezuela.
