The Object 268 was a prototype Soviet tank destroyer from the Cold War period. The only prototype of the vehicle was developed in 1956 - but the car never entered mass production. The vehicle was powered by an experimental engine V-12-5 power of 750 hp . It was armed with a 152 mm M-64 gun and a single 14.5 mm machine gun.
Work on Object 268 probably began in 1952, Factory no. 174. The chassis of the T-10 heavy tank was used in the creation of the new tank destroyer, but also numerous upgrades were applied. First of all, a completely new engine was introduced, and instead of the turret, a heavily armored casemates with main weapons were placed in the front of the hull. Another novelty was the use of an artillery rangefinder on the roof of the vehicle. The Object 268 was characterized by very strong armament, powerful armor, but also - which may be surprising given the considerable weight of the vehicle - quite good maneuverability. Despite the fact that Object 268 successfully passed field trials and never entered mass production.
