HMS Roberts it was one of the monitors in the class of the same name - that is, Roberts. Type O. Ships of this type were designed primarily to support amphibious operations, and to a much lesser extent for offshore operations. The main armament of these monitors came from Marshal-type units - dating back to the First World War. Roberts-class ships also had a relatively wide hull to ensure good stability of the vessel during firing. HMS Roberts took an active part in Operation Torch in late 1942, during which it was severely damaged. After refurbishment, it supported the Allied landings in Sicily in 1943 and in the Salerno area the same year. After ferrying to the British Isles, he participated in the Normandy landings in June 1944. The unit was in service - with breaks - until 1965.
