Liaoning (previously Wariag) is a modern Chinese classic-propelled aircraft carrier. The keel was laid for this unit in 1985, the launch took place in November 1988, and entry into service with the Chinese Navy took place in 2012. The total length of the ship is 304.5 meters, the overall width is 75 meters, and the full displacement is about 67,500 tons. The maximum speed is up to 30 knots. The on-board armament probably consists of three 18-rail HQ-10 missile launchers and three Type 1130 CIWS sets. The aircraft carrier can probably take on board up to 40-45 aircraft, including, for example, Shenyang J-15 planes or Harbin Z-9 helicopters.

Liaoning was originally launched as a Varyag for the Soviet Navy. Varyag belonged to the aircraft carrier class Admiral Kuznetsov (project 1143.6). This type of units was a logical development of the Moscow and Kyiv class ships. It was much larger than them, could also take many more planes on board, and had improved electronic equipment. However, only the leading ship of this class, Admiral Kuznetsov, entered service in the Soviet Navy. The second one, Varyag, which was not completed due to financial problems following the collapse of the USSR, was sold to a Chinese company as a floating entertainment center. However, in 2002, the unit was taken over by the Chinese Navy, which decided to finish the aircraft carrier, after introducing many modernizations in the project. Finally, the unit entered service in 2012, becoming the first Chinese aircraft carrier in history.
