The USS Langley (CV-1) was an American coal carrier and later an aircraft carrier laid down in October 1911, launched in August 1912, and commissioned in the US Navy in April 1913. The length of the ship - after conversion to an aircraft carrier - was 165.2 m, width approx. 20 m, and full displacement - 13,900 tons. The maximum speed of the aircraft carrier reached 15.5-16 knots, and its main armament was up to 36 on-board aircraft. The deck armament consisted of four 127 mm guns.

USS Langley (CV-1) was originally called USS Jupiter (AC-3) and acted as a coal carrier, i.e. a fleet supply unit. However, in the years 1920-1922 it was converted into an aircraft carrier and it remained in service in this role until 1937, when it was reclassified as an air tender. While performing the latter function, he remained in service until 1942. USS Langley (CV-1) was rebuilt at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia. When it entered service, it was the first aircraft carrier in the history of the US Navy. He also played a gigantic role in the development of American naval aviation in the 1920s and 1930s, spending a large part of his service in the Pacific Ocean. USS Langley (CV-1) was sunk by the Japanese airline on February 27, 1942 during an attempt to transfer P-40s from Australia to the island of Java.
