The Douglas A-3D Skywarrior aircraft is an on-board long-range bomber. The flight of the prototype took place in 1952, and serial production was carried out in 1956-1961. In total, 282 machines of this type were produced. The main task of A-3D was to attack Soviet surface units (conventional and nuclear weapons) at a distance from their own aircraft carriers (about 1500 km). Such tasks made the plane the largest carrier aircraft in history to date, earning the unofficial nickname "The Whale". From 1962, the remaining airplanes in service were adapted to other tasks, which led to the creation of many A-3D versions. Among are min. KA-3B (tanker), EA-3A / B (electronic warfare), RA-3 (photographic reconnaissance), TA-3B (radar training), EKA-3B (combined model: tanker and electronic warfare). The planes were used in combat in the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. The A-3D was armed with two 20mm cannons in the tail turret. Technical data: Top speed: 982 km / h; range: 3381km, empty weight: 17800kg.
