The De Havilland Sea Vixen was a British jet in-flight fighter from the post-war period. The plane was built in the dorsal wing configuration, with the tail end mounted on two tail beams. The machine first flew in 1951, and eight years later it was accepted into service, which it served until 1972. Approximately 145 examples of this aircraft were built in the course of production. The drive - in the FAW.2 version - was provided by two engines Rolls-Royce Avon Mk.208 with 50 kN each. The plane was able to carry such air-to-air missiles as, for example, Red Top or Firestreak.

Initially, de Havilland Sea Vixen was designed for both the RAF and the Royal Navy (FAA). The manufacturer decided to keep the same design in this aircraft (with two tail beams) as it was used in the Vampire and Venom models. However, in 1952, the RAF decided to introduce into service the cheaper and easier to operate Gloster Javelin aircraft, thus the FAA was the only recipient of the new machine. Two main development versions were created in the course of production: FAW.1 and FAW.2. The main differences between the two versions concerned the capacity of the fuel tanks and the ability of the FAW.2 version to carry a wider range of air-to-air missiles.
