The Chengdu J-7 (another designation: Chengdu F-7) is a modern Chinese fighter plane. The prototype flight took place in 1966. Serial production was carried out in the years 1967-2017. More than 2,400 aircraft of this type were created in its course. The drive - in the J-7MG version - is provided by a single Liyang Wopen-13F engine with 44.1 kN thrust without an afterburner. The length of the aircraft is 14.89 meters with a wingspan of 8.32 meters. Top speed is up to 2 Ma. The deck armament consists of two 30mm Type 30-1 cannons. The machine can also carry a load of bombs or rockets weighing up to approx. 3,000 kilograms.

The Chengdu J-7 was initially a very faithful copy of the Soviet MiG-21 F-13 fighter. Initially, it was also assumed that the license production of this machine would be based on the original Soviet technical documentation, but due to political tensions on the Moscow-Beijing line, it was not transferred to the Chinese side. As a result, the production of the Chengdu J-7 machine was based on the observations and conclusions drawn from the dismantling of the MiG-21 F-13 aircraft previously delivered by the USSR. The process took several years and production only started in 1967. However, in its course, the machine underwent many modernizations and improvements that improved its combat capabilities and made it increasingly purely Chinese. The Chengdu J-7 plane was exported to many Asian countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran and the DPRK.
