The Nanchang Q-5 or A-5 (in NATO code: Fantan) is a modern Chinese-made attack aircraft. The flight of the prototype took place in 1965, and serial production started in 1969. The drive is provided by two turbojet engines Liming Wopen-6A with a thrust of 36.78 kN with an afterburner each . The length of the plane is 15.65 meters with a wingspan of 9.68 meters. The on-board armament consists of two 23 mm Type 23-2K cannons. The aircraft can carry bombs and rockets weighing up to 2,000 kilograms. The Nanchang Q-5 aircraft was developed as a development of the Shenyang J-6, which in turn was a licensed version of the Soviet MiG-19 machine. Compared to its prototype, it has a changed and redesigned hull structure, side air grips and a changed vertical tail. The machine was also adapted primarily to assault tasks and flights at subsonic speed. It is worth noting that work on the new machine started in 1958, but the test flight of the prototype took place only seven years later! It is worth adding that the aircraft in the Q-5A version could carry tactical nuclear bombs. The Nanchang Q-5 aircraft, apart from the PRC aviation, serves or has served in the air forces of such countries as Bangladesh, Pakistan or Sudan.
