The Convair F-106 Delta Dart is an American single-engine interceptor, referred to by the USAAF as the ultimate interceptor. The flight of the prototype took place on December 26, 1956, and the machine entered the linear units in 1959. The aircraft initially had poor performance, but after the modification, it entered service with the USAAF. The serial F-106 were powered by a Pratt-Whitney J75-17 afterburning turbojet engine and used the Hughes MA-1 Fire Control System. The F-106 also had an armament chamber which improved its aerodynamic properties. During the service, the F-106 became a plane appreciated by pilots, and compared to the F-4 it had better acceleration and similar maneuverability. The F-106 has never been used in combat, nor has it been exported outside of the US. F-106 were stationed mainly in the United States, only a small number of them went to bases in Germany and South Korea. Two versions were created: "A", that is the hunting version, and "B", the training version, for two places. From 1972, the F-106 was replaced by the F-15 Eagle in USAAF units. Technical data: Maximum speed: 2,455 km / h, speed of climb: 150 m / s, maximum altitude: 17,000 m, maximum range: 4,300 km, armament: fixed - one 20mm six-barrel M61A-1 cannon, suspended - usually four AIM missiles -4 or one AIR-2 Genie.
