USS England (DE-635) was an American WWII destroyer. The keel for this unit was laid in April 1943, and the launch took place in September 1943. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 93.3 meters and a width of 11.1 meters. Full displacement reached approx. 1750 tons, and the maximum speed was approx. 24 knots. The armament at the time of launching consisted of, among other things: three 76 mm guns, four 28 mm cannons and 8 depth charge launchers.
USS England (DE-635) was one of 102 Buckley-class destroyers. Units of this type were designed and built on a massive scale as escort destroyers with extensive anti-submarine capabilities (ZOP). Their main task was to cover convoys - especially in the Atlantic. Interestingly, the production of this type of units took place in many plants in the USA, and their final assembly took place only in shipyards. They can be viewed as equivalent to the Royal Navy Hunt destroyers. USS England, after passing the necessary training and matching the crew, was sent to the Pacific in February 1944. The greatest feat of the ship and its crew was the sinking or serious damage of six Japanese submarines in just twelve days! The unit performed this feat in May 1944. At the very end of the war, in May 1945, the destroyer was severely damaged in a suicide air attack. Later, it was planned to be rebuilt into a fast transport ship of the fleet, but due to serious damage, the work was abandoned. USS England was decommissioned in October 1945.
